The Social Networking Association Story
At its core, the Social Networking Association is a community of social influencers, companies, and support companies who have joined forces to positively impact the direct sales/network marketing/party plan industry. 

The Social Networking Association formed in 1985, under the masterful leadership of Doris Wood and the board, to meet the emotional, social, educational, and business needs of its members. In the early years, as the MLMIA (Multi-Level Marketing International Association), the organization became the first to recognize all categories that served the industry. Distributors, Support, and Corporate entities voted and secured representation, making the association a formidable, united force in business.

Since the Association’s inception in 1985, the industry has witnessed broadscale and nuanced challenges: technological revolutions that unearthed the foundation of business communications; complacency in standards and oversight, lending a greater urgency toward individual and company accountability; an increasingly diverse network with global connectivity and varied interests and needs; and a thought-movement toward finding a higher purpose through business. None of these challenges, however, disrupted the industry quite like social media. 

Social media became the new business relationship playbook, the alpha and omega for startups that left established companies to wonder after their place in the evolving corporate landscape. Social media elevated individuals to their personal best and carried with it the gravity of social responsibility. The single biggest revolution to ever hit the direct sales/network marketing/party plan industry necessitated an Association change equal to the paradigm shift of social media.

A change in name to Social Networking Association, a name that embodied a heightened level of connectivity between members, was only the beginning. To raise the caliber of services and benefits for all members, to respect the organization’s history while reassessing the needs of modern members, to ensure a world-class community that elevated all members to their personal best, we sought a leader as dynamic and forward-leaning as Doris Wood and the board.

The Association found that visionary in Jim Lupkin.

Jim is at the forefront of the social media movement. He loves the industry and holds a fundamental belief that a connectedness to community bring success to all. Every business decision reflects his higher purpose: to positively and fundamentally change the world, one connection at a time.

The Association continues to be a constant and reliable presence for its members.
